Livingstone - Victoria Falls

Half way round my trip of South West Africa and I am now in Livingstone home of the mighty Victoria Falls. It has been an amazing two weeks since leaving Cape Town with so many contrasts. I havn't seen a cloud in the sky since Cape Town and the temperature has been hot although chilly at night.
I am having some digital camera issues at the moment so I won't be posting any pics this time however I hope to fix that shortly. Here is a brief summary of the past two weeks:

Sunday 10 August - Thursday 12th
Drove through South Africa visting the wine tasting region of Stellenbosch, incredible scenery and definately I place I want to come back to with more time to spend. We continued heading further north though the towns of Beaufort West and then up to Kimberly. Kimberly contains a former diamond mine and now has a vistors centre and a chance to vist the "Big Hole" which was the former open cast mine. The camp sites have been really nice and very quiet. Starting to get used to the whole camping thing now!!

Friday 13th August - Sunday 15th August
Entered Botswana from South Africa and drove the town of Kanye before joining the Trans Kalahari desert highway. We had a tough couple of days ahead of driving through the desert with a lot of ground to cover. The desert not your typical sand dunes but more scrub and bush but still very arrid. There is very little to see with only small towns every 400km or so. We spent our first night bush camping in the desert. With no lights the stars at night were incredible and it was amazing to be camping in the true wild. Very cold at night though, thank god for the down sleeping bag!! Our second day took us through the town of Ganzi to anotjer bush camp. We went for a bush walk with the local San people who live in the desert and that night they gave us a demonstration of their dancing around the camp fire - very magical.

Monday 16th August - Wednesday 18th
Drove further north and into the Okavango delta the largest inland delta in the world. We spent 2 nights in the national park on our own private campsite. The view was spectacular over the countryside with Zebra, Elephant and Giraffe just a feww hundred yards from us. We also took a boat safari over the delta and saw hippos and fantastic birdlife. After the delta we left for Nata to a proper campsite to "freshen up"!!

Thursday 19th August - Saturday 21st
Morning drive to Kasane on where we set up camp and went for a safari into the Chobe game reserve. This has the largest population of elephant in the world and we were not dissappointed. Hundreds of elephant everywhere I looked. We also saw our first lions in the park - I have some great phots which I will post later.
The next day we crossed into Zimbabwe to view the mighty Victoria Falls. Only a day in Zimbabwe before heading into Zambia and Livingstone. Everything in Livingstone is based around the falls with so many activities it is incredible. I have been white water rafting and took a microlight flight over the falls. The rafting was truly frightening with grade 5 rapids and flipped twice!!

Heading into Namiba for the next two weeks so stay tuned for more info - bye.
